3 Things that went right:
I think I learned a lot from Vincent about UVing and using Substance Painter. I've never fully understood UVing and still don't, but Vincent gave me a lot of helpful strategies and things to aim for while doing the process.
I think I filled my role well in the project. I would ask my lead what work was required and would try my best to complete it each week which made it a lot less stressful for me and I think I was able to focus on the work a lot more than if I was juggling multiple roles.
Working with the 3D art team we were able to make a pretty cohesive art style. Although it was ultimately Vincent implementing the assets, getting feedback from the team helped us make assets that fit the game and when they were in the scene, they looked natural.
3 Things that went wrong:
I think there was a bit of a lapse in team-wide communication. It sometimes felt like the various teams were not all on the same page.
I felt a bit disconnected from the other parts of the project at times. With a smaller project, it is easier to help out on the other aspects and see how things are progressing, but in a larger project, work is divided more.
I was very busy this term with both other classes and things in my personal life. I wish I had had more time to dedicate to the project.
Lessons: This project helped me develop my 3D skills a lot, especially as a 3D artist on a team, rather than as I normally assume the role of a generalist. Being able to focus all my attention on one thing helped me stay productive. I also want to do this on future projects to ensure everyone has their desired role and it is a good fit. One big problem we had was keeping everyone on the same page and keeping project goals and milestones. In future projects, I would try to make very specific milestones for content we want in the game and make a game plan to get it done, checking in throughout the week so that everyone is aware of progress.
